Manila Kingpin, The Asiong Salonga Story

Manila Kingping, The Asiong Salonga Story is a true to life story and now among the official entry to the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival 2011. The film is an action movie with main casts Carla Abellana and Jeorge “ER” Estregan as “Asiong Salonga.” Carla plays the first wife of Asiong Salonga in the movie.

During the prescon, Gov. Estregan was asked what makes this film different from the old “Asiong Salonga” movie. He said that a research study was conducted including interviews with the family of Asiong Salonga that the old movie missed.  The movie includes the untold story  of  Asiong Salonga.   The  producer invested enough time and budget to produce such quality film intended to release internationally. The movie was shot entirely in black and white to really feel how Tondo looked like few decades ago including the vintage car they used in the scene and the producers rebuilt the old town of Tondo.

It has been a while since I watched an action film. I got thrilled by just viewing the full trailer and I just can’t wait till I watch this one! This is a quality movie that you shouldn’t miss!

Tondo, Manila..

The Ancient Filipino gangland, year 1910 to 1950. Gangwars were in. A bloodbath of violence was the name of the game. Gangster fearlessly carried Thompsons and Grease Guns in a Bayong. Police characters were just too tough resulting to bloody encounters. All dreaded hoodlums and notorious gang leaders dreamt to be King.

But one smart and slippery mobster rose to power and reigned as King. He was the youngest and toughest Public Enemy No. 1 from 1945 to 1951 the Tondo underworld ever bred. He was feared, respected and loved. A legendary Robinhood and daring toughie in his time Tondo will never forget. He robbed the rich to give to the poor.

But as the saying goes, crime does not pay. He was a victim of gang rivalry, Gangland Vendetta. Politics and double cross which ended his shady career.

His henchmen called him Hitler. Tondo remembers him by another name… Asiong Salonga.

Tuesday Couch Potatoes

This week theme for TCP is order in the court!! My entry is My Cousin Vinny.

I seldom watch movie with any courtroom scene, but when I saw this movie with a touch of comedy, I became interested and watched the film. I also love Marissa Tomei whom I admired most in her movie “Only You” with co-stars Robert Downey Jr.

My Cousin Vinny is 1992 film starring Joe Pesci, Ralph Macchio, Marissa Tomei and featuring Fred Gwyne. Tthe story is about two young New Yorkers who were put on trial they did not commit. Tomei won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in this movie.

I am excited for TCP next week. I am so in love with Ryan Gosling right now and will feature him for love story theme next week.

It’s girl power for this week and my pick will be none other but Mulan! I have watched this movie several times. I remember many years back when I had a job interview. The interviewer asked me the last movie that I watched, probably wondering how vivid my memory is, and I told her it’s Mulan. Then interviewer asked me to give the synopsis of that movie. Because my kids watched this film several times, I almost memorized lines from that movie and gave her the full summary. And so, it goes.. The young girl named Mulan fought for her nation. She disguised herself as a man to take the place of her father who is too old to be in the battle. Eddie Murphy played the small dragon named Mushu in the movie..

TCP: A Merry Christmas Movie

Yay Christmas! And yes, Christmas too in my blog and my entry would be: Home Alone.
Home Alone is a movie about the adventure of Kevin, played by Macaulay Culkin. It all started when Kevin McCallister’s family flies to Paris for a Christmas vacation and Kevin was mistakenly left behind and instead head to New York and spend his Christmas alone. While he was enjoying his time, two intruders came into the house. The film was shown 19 years ago but I still remember the scenes on how Kevin outwitted the two intruders in the house. There’s no dull scene and this film made me laugh a lot.

Tuesday Couch Potatoes

I missed last week theme western movies and if I’m to submit my entry it would be Legends of the Fall for primary reason being Brad Pitt in the cast and the story behind it. Sorry Kikamz , I’ve been too busy into something, I’ll try to catch up every week for Tuesday Couch Potatoes.

So here’s my entry for this week’s American Presidents or First Families in the Movie.
Mine is Air force One.

I couldn’t think anyone other than Harrison Ford to play the perfect role of American president in this movie. The movie is about the president’s plane being hijacked by a group of militant Russian nationalists and tried to ransom the president and his family onboard the plane for the release of captured Russian general. Just like any other movies, there are some unimaginable scene in real life like hanging out at the back end of plane twice for hundreds of miles per hour. Overall, I like the movie from begining to end since the story has its own good effects with some action, tension and drama scenes.

Full summary up here.
